Since officially opening his doors as a consultant to local small to medium size businesses, Burr Consulting has worked with a number of local organizations, including Kennedy Valve, Arnot Medical Services, Bombardier Transportation, Guthrie Health, Chemung ARC, Elmira College, Corning Community College, Tompkins County Community College, Cameron Manufacturing, and several others.
Matthew Burr has over eleven years of experience working in the human resources field, starting his career as an Industrial Relations Intern at Kennedy Valve Manufacturing to most recently founding and managing a human resource consulting company; Burr Consulting, LLC. Prior to founding the consulting firm, the majority of his career was spent in manufacturing and healthcare. He specializes in labor and employment law, conflict resolution, performance management, labor and employment relations. Matthew has a generalist background in HR and provides strategic HR services to his clients, focusing on small and medium sized organizations.
In July 2017, Matthew started as an Associate Professor of Business Administration at Elmira College and was promoted into the Continuing Education & Business Administration Department Liaison role in July 2018. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate level business courses at Elmira College. Matthew is also the SHRM Certification Exam Instructor at the college, his students currently have an 80% pass rate on the SHRM-SCP and 92.3% pass rate on the SHRM-CP. Matthew works as a trainer Tompkins Cortland Community College, Corning Community College, Broome Community College and Penn State University. He also acts as an On-Call Mediator and Fact-Finder through the Public Employment Relations Board in New York State, working with public sector employers and labor unions.
Matthew was recently completed his MBA at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University in December 2017 and attained his Global Professional in Human Resources certification for HRCI in June 2018.
Matthew self-published his first book on Amazon, $74,000 in 24 Months, focusing on his journey back from student loan debt in 2017. This book provides first hand experience, research and advice from Matt, who paid back the $74,000 owed from his undergraduate and graduate degrees in only 24 months. With his MBA recently completed, he looks forward to using the same strategies and principles he provides in the book to do it again. He hopes to release another edition of this book with additional strategies and pay off information after completing the pay off for his next round of student loan debt.
Matt is currently working on his second book, a joint effort with colleague and consultant Megan Cole, which they plan to release later in 2018. This book will highlight the top, best human resources practices for small to medium size businesses and will focus on answering common, frequently asked questions.
Matthew Burr has also been published in Business Insider, the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Cornell Business Review.
